"Original" barely begins to describe the condition of this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 327 Big Brake 327 Fuelie. (All numbers matching car) 1 of only 246 produced In concours condition.
In 1962 this was the Corvette to drive if one had racing in mind.
Produced in early April 1962 and delivered new to LaPointe Chevrolet in Charlotte, NC. It was ordered in Roaman Red with a matching red interior trim, an auxiliary hardtop, heater and defroster deletion, and painted steel wheels with "dog-dish" hubcaps and 6.70-15 4-ply nylon Blackwall tires. Power comes from the top-of-the-line RPO 582 327/360 HP "Fuelie" V8 Engine that is backed by a Borg Warner close-ratio 4-speed and 4.11 positraction rear end.
This car is one of just 246 produced, with the racing-purposed RPO 687 Heavy-Duty Brakes and Special Steering Package, that added special shock absorbers and a quick-steering adapter, metallic brake linings inside finned drums, Internal cooling fans, and open backing plates fitted with defectors and scoops out front and scoops at the rear.
Reported Car History (Long Story): Owner #1
Reportedly, the original owner ordered this Corvette to be delivered with the engine and drivetrain in a separate crate with the plan to prepare and install the drivetrain for drag racing. Unfortunately, the gentleman passed away before he got to install the engine, so the car never turned a wheel before passed away.
Owner #2
After purchasing the car, from the gentleman's estate Tom McNeil installed the drivetrain and completed the assembly for the first time in the car's history; however, he never attempted to start the engine.
The car was shipped to Floyd Garrett's Car Museum in Tennessee, where it remained on display for years until the museum shut down and the inventory sold, and the Corvette was purchased by its 3rd and current owner.
It has gone virtually untouched since then.
To our knowledge, this is a new 1962 Corvette, however we have no proof nor documentaion, only story that has been passed down with the car.
The numbers matching engine appears to be new and has never been started, The odometer remains at 0 miles. The engine remains without oil and the original battery without acid.
The final details establish this 1962 Corvette as undoubtedly one of the most original in existence.
